With a career spanning some 22 years in Information Technology, Paul Rigby, Co-Founder and Chief Technical Officer of Ingensys is highly regarded as a thought leader and technical visionary in the fields of ‘cloud computing’, messaging and collaboration platforms and mobile applications.
Initially an RPG systems analyst on the IBM midrange platform, working on many ERP systems, Paul has also had a lengthy relationship with the Notes/Domino product set, first working with Lotus Notes at version 2.1 - when he architected and implemented the product for a global PLC.
In 1987, Paul became the youngest recipient of the prestigious IBM Systems Centre technical excellence award.
By 1988, Paul had already gained significant experience of the then IBM midrange platform servers, predominantly the IBM System 34/36 and 38 (the predecessor to the IBM AS/400), and based on this knowledge, he successfully designed and led the implementation team for the then largest single System/36 server installation in the world.
In the mid 1990’s Paul became the head of technical consultancy for one of IBM’s top tier Premier Business partners and two years later was promoted to the position of Divisional Managing Director. Although this was a “greenfield expansion” for the parent company, under Paul’s initiative and direction the division profitably achieved consultancy led multi million revenue sales inside a 3 year period.
Recognition of the companies innovative work with Lotus Notes and the IBM AS/400 spearheaded by Paul, provided him with the opportunity to work with the IBM Rochester laboratory, the home of the AS/400 to investigate the feasibility and later assist, as a member of the alpha design team, on the product later to be released as Domino for AS/400 (iSeries).
Soon after the launch of the Domino for AS/400 product, Paul met with a well known retail organisation in the UK, and convinced them to adopt the new technology and then personally architected the world’s largest implementation of the product. For this achievement his team won the first prestigious “Powered by AS/400” award from IBM, which was presented to him by Dr Frank Soltis, “father” of the AS/400.
Through this success and his work with IBM Rochester, Paul became a regular presenter at many IBM events world wide, speaking as an evangelist for Domino and the AS/400 technologies. Paul was a main technical contributor and spokesman for Domino and iSeries, writing regular articles for industry publications, including iSeries News, in addition to speaking engagements worldwide including the prestigious IBM Lotusphere event in Orlando, FL.
In 1999 Paul was recruited as Business Development Director for another of IBM’s Premier Business partners, and inside 2 years achieved a 400% growth in the Domino development and solutions practice within that business.
In late 2001, Ingensys was formed and incorporated as a consultancy practice working in the UK, US and Eire; primarily based on the Blueprint Business Solutions Portfolio, designed and architected by Paul. Since inception the company has gained recognition for excellence and have formed partnerships with several worldwide technology providers. ‘Thinking about IT differently ‘, - Ingensys exclusively uses Apple Mac hardware and open technologies and has done since the companies formation.
In addition, by using Paul’s extensive knowledge of the diverse expertise of several other consultants, Ingensys formed a working cooperative, which is known as the Ingensys “ecosystem”. This provides Ingensys with the ability to “plug in” specific knowledge as and when required, thus negating a potentially large overhead burden, and allowing the provision of high quality expertise and performance by a team of Domino, Websphere, Eclipse J2EE and i5 specialists, designing and implementing collaborative environments and solutions at extremely competitive rates.
A significant development in the Ingensys product set was based on Paul’s relationship with Lotus Development in the US. His reputation enabled Ingensys in 2002 to become founder partner of a new company, Groove Networks, and Paul became the first accredited Groove consultant and implementation specialist in Europe. Groove was founded by Ray Ozzie the inventor of Lotus Notes and in July 2005 was purchased by Microsoft, and Ray has been appointed Chief Software Architect of Microsoft Corporation, with the remit to incorporate and promote Groove’s technology as a part of the Microsoft growth plans in the collaboration market place. Ingensys is a Microsoft Information Worker Specialist.
In 2005, Ingensys provided the consultancy, and Paul became the Technical lead architect, for a large and complex migration of users from a combined cc:Mail / Exchange 5.5 / Exchange 2000 legacy system to Lotus Domino for one of Europe’s leading logistics companies.
In 2006, Paul working in partnership with IBM Lotus, lead and won a competitive bid situation for a $1 Billion global manufacturing organisation. The project involved the global replacement of an Exchange 5.5 email system to a Lotus Domino system for some 6,700 users. Paul was the lead technical architect for the design and implementation of the Domino server platform, Exchange Integration and Blackberry mobile solution.
In early 2007, Paul finished the architecture and creation of the Ingensys ‘On Demand’ Blueprint solutions - the companies Software as a Service (SaaS) offerings. Intercom is the companies managed e-mail offering, with the successful Intercept service providing Anti Spam and Anti Virus filtering for all email systems without any hardware or software purchases necessary. The Ingensys On Demand services are unique in the market place and offer a price per user per month charged on a rolling quarterly basis with no long term contracts or tie-ins.
2008, has seen the extension of the On Demand ‘cloud computing’ portfolio with the introduction of consultancy services exclusively focussing on the Google platform, through a separate division - Ingensys r2g.
This is indicative of Paul’s understanding of, and insight into, the world of emerging IT technology, and provides Ingensys with an edge to get in on the ground floor. But it is his ability to speak passionately about IT technology in laymen’s terms, bringing his own unique style and enthusiasm, which has made Paul a popular presenter with audience’s world wide, of course, at the same time providing him with the opportunity of promoting the abilities of Ingensys the group of which he is a Shareholder, Director and Chief Technical Officer.
